Jimmy Castro was born in Madrid, Spain and started acting at the young age of 8 in the television show "Canguros". He perfected his craft at the William Layton Theatre Lab based in Madrid and the Bob McAndrew Acting Studio in New York. He studied philosophy at the Autónoma University of Madrid for three years before dedicating himself to acting full-time in 2015. A classically-trained actor, Castro has had outstanding performances at the National Drama Center, the Spanish Theatre and the National Classical Theater Company where he was the first black male lead playing Pedro in Miguel de Cervantes' "Pedro de Urdemalas" in 2016. Outside of theatre, he has acted in fiction roles. Some of his movies include the critically acclaimed fantasy drama "The Incredible Shrinking wknd" directed by Jon Mikel Caballero who won the 'Best Director' and 'Best Screen Play' awards in the 2019 Bilbao Fantasy Film Festival. Castro starred in the ground-breaking film "Where The Road Runs Out" (2014) starring Ivorian actor Isaach de Bankolé and directed by Rudolf Buitendach marking the first feature film to be shot in Equatorial Guinea. It received numerous awards including "Best Director" (2015 Sunscreen Film Festival), "Best narrative feature" (2015 San Diego International Film Festival), "United Tribute Award" (2015 San Diego Film Festival), "Jury Award" (2016 Helsinki African Film Festival) and "Outstanding World Cinema Film" (2017 Black Reel Awards). Another of Castro's films is "Smoking Club 129 Normas" (2017) directed by Alberto Utrera and revolves around a cannabis club and the rules imposed by its owners. It was filmed in nine days and won "Best Film" in El Novelísimo Film Festival and the "Public Choice Award" in Alcine Film Festival. Castro also acted in popular Spanish shows like "Paco's Men" where he played police Nelson Amadou and "Down There" playing Doctor Tomy Ochoa. Most recently, Castro played Calixto in Academy Award-nominee Esteban Crespo's upcoming film "Black Beach" expected to be released in 2020. Castro has experimented outside of acting writing, directing and starring in his short film "Why Not" (2013). Also a multi-instrumentalist, he created the song "Nunca Fiarme del Reloj" (Never Trust The Clock) for the film "The Incredible Shrinking wknd".
