Ed Cobb

Musician, songwriter and record producer Ed Cobb was born in 1938. Cobb was a member of the pop group, The Four Preps, from 1956 to 1966. Ed either wrote or co-wrote a bunch of songs for an eclectic array of artists; said songs include "Dirty Water" and "Sometimes Good Guys Don't Wear White" for The Standells, "No Way Out" for The Chocolate Watchband, "Brontosaurus Stomp" for the Piltdown Men, "Every Little Bit Hurts" for Brenda Holloway (this song was later covered by such artists as George Clinton, The Clash, and Spencer Davis), and "Tainted Love" for Gloria Jones (Soft Cell scored a huge hit with their cover version of this particular song in the 80s). Moreover, Cobb worked as either a music producer or a sound engineer for such artists as The Standells, The Chocolate Watchband, The Lettermen, the Piltdown Men, Steely Dan, Pink Floyd and Fleetwood Mac. Ed earned thirty-two Gold and Platinum awards throughout his career. Among the movies that feature Cobb songs on the soundtrack are A Name for Evil (1973), Private Parts (1997), Not Another Teen Movie (2001), 13 Going on 30 (2004), Beauty Shop (2005) and This Is England (2006). Ed composed the funky score for the trashy blaxploitation feature, Tom (1973) (aka The Bad Bunch). In addition, Cobb was a champion horse breeder and briefly served as the president of the Idaho Racing Commission. Ed Cobb died at age 61 of leukemia on September 19, 1999.
