Philip (Phil) Clarke is a British television producer. He was born in Watford in 1961, studied at Rickmansworth School and Manchester University, and worked briefly as a PR at Heathrow Airport and the National Army Museum before going full-time as an actor and stand-up comic on the alternative comedy circuit of the 1980s. In 1992 he joined BBC Radio as a light entertainment producer, before moving into BBC Television, and then joining Talkback as a senior comedy producer. He founded and ran the comedy department at Objective Productions from 2004 to 2012. In March 2012 he joined Channel 4 television as its Head of Comedy, becoming Head of Comedy and Acting Head of Drama in 2016. In 2017 he left Channel 4 to found the television production company Various Artists Ltd, alongside co-directors Sam Bain, Jesse Armstrong and Roberto Troni. Phil is married, has two sons, and lives in London and Sussex. He is the co-author of "Gardening for the Zombie Apocalypse: How to Grow Your Own Food When Civilization Collapses (Or Even If It Doesn't)"
