A former juvenile stage actor, Canadian-born William James Craft came to Hollywood in the early 1900s as an actor, eventually giving up acting to work as a cameraman, then became a director. He served as a photographer during World War I, and after the war he concentrated on directing, working often for Universal Pictures. He died in an auto accident in Hollywood in 1931.
