David is an Emmy-award-winning filmmaker whose acclaimed documentaries have screened at festivals and on networks around the world. His work has been supported by the Sundance Institute, PBS, the California Council for the Humanities, the Hartley Foundation, the Humane Society, and the Center for Asian American Media, among others. David's latest film is the short documentary "Flightpath", which won numerous awards on the festival circuit and qualified for the 2024 Oscars. He also recently produced and directed the Emmy-winning "Duchamp Comes to Pasadena" for the Public Television series Artbound. Previously, David produced and directed "Luso-Fornia", an impressionistic vision of the relationship between humanity, nature, and spirituality in rural Central California's Azorean immigrant communities; "Operation Popcorn", about the ringleader of an alleged plot to overthrow the Communist government of Laos; "Sentenced Home" (with Nicole Newnham), which tracks three former refugees from Southeast Asia through the deportation process; "Centralia", a revealing portrait of an out-of-control mine fire under a small Pennsylvania town; and "Those Who Are in Love", which celebrated the vanishing folk minstrel tradition in Turkey. David created the series "Nightshift" for PBS, which uses the stories of people who work at night to explore a variety of social issues. He has also created video art installations and interactive projects, and for over 15 years he has directed a wide variety of branded content and commercials.
