“I think you should never be forced to be nice as an artist. An artist has to be uncomfortable in a way. Narcissistic and uncomfortable.” Luca Guadagnino is an Italian director who takes emotions to their fullest expression, valuing more what is not said, what is left between glances and silences packed with meaning, rather than explicit dialogues. He became known for Yo soy el amor (2009) and was internationally recognized by Call Me by Your Name (2017), an ode to desire and self-discovery that launched him among the greats of cinema, with several Oscar nominations.Inspired by Ingmar Bergman's and Dario Argento's cinema, he tries to enrich the plot and seduce the senses with each shot, color and piece of music used in his films. Through stories such as Suspira (2018) or Challengers (2024), he pushes the boundaries of film genres, moving between drama, romance and horror, showing his ability to undress characters and deliver emotional complexity while addressing themes such as desire, sexuality and human fragility. Guadagnino's cinema is known for not following rules, but instead seeks to capture both the eye and the heart, with films that are not only to be seen, but also to be felt.
