After living in Germany for the first few years of his life, Alex Hakobian moved to Northern California. He was the star athlete in his high school and went to UBA College and UCLA where he studied theater and film. After getting a few jobs as an actor, a writer, a gaffer, and other important jobs on the set, Hakobian got tired of the Hollywood system and started teaching. After a few years of teaching English, Hakobian started teaching film technique to children at Belvedere Middle School in Los Angeles. One of the short videos that was made there, The Bite of Apathy, won international awards including a CINE Eagle. He then moved to Grant High School in Van Nuys, CA where he is currently teaching film and video production. He and his students regularly win about a third of all the awards they submit their videos to and have an annuel "Film Night" where they show the best of the videos they make in the school auditorium. Among the award winning videos produced at Grant High School under Hakobian's supervision are _For the Laughs (2000)_, _Spoiled Little Brat (1998)_, _California Ryan (2000)_, and _The 10 Minute Run!!! (2001)_.
