Marc Handler is an American producer, writer, voice director, and story editor best known for his work on Cowboy Bebop, Astro Boy, FLCL, Stitch & Ai, and Voltron. He is a pioneer in bringing anime to Western audiences, and has worked as a creative executive for Sony, Japan and an executive producer for Disney, China. Born and raised in Los Angeles, California, Handler earned two Masters degrees from the University of Southern California in directing theatre and writing for film and television. He wrote original episodes for American animation series such as Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and Denver the Last Dinosaur, and became involved in the first major wave of imported anime, writing English language adaptations for Voltron and Transformers, then later for Cowboy Bebop, Fooly Cooly, Ghost in the Shell, and Steamboy. He also worked on Chinese, Korean, and European projects for companies such as CCTV, UYoung, BRB, and Sunwoo; voice directed Stephen Chow for the English dub of Shaolin Soccer; and from 2015 to 2018 he created animation series and live action TV dramas for Disney, China. Marc's works have won awards from the Tokyo Animation Fair in Japan; the Shanghai TV Festival, SMG International cooperation awards, and CCG forum in China; the Premios Midia Awards in South America; and the American Anime Awards, L.A. Dramalogue awards, and San Francisco Playwrights awards in the U.S. He has done presentations for the Ministry of Culture of the People's Republic of China, and for professional forums in Shanghai, Ningbo, and Hangzhou; has been a judge for the Canadian BANFF awards; a guest lecturer at Tokyo University; a featured speaker at San Diego Comic-Con, and Anime L.A; and is an organizer and workshop leader at the annual Disney-SART training events in Burbank. Marc is the Author of the instructional books "Perfect Writing" and "Perfect Presentations" which were published by Freelec Publishers in Korea and Beijing University Press in China.
