Cao Hamburger was born in Sao Paulo. His second feature film, "The Year My Parents Went on Vacation", competed in the 2007 Berlin Film Festival and is the recipient of the Rio International Film Festival Audience Award and the Sao Paulo Association of Art Critics Award for Best Screenplay. His first feature was the award-winning "Ra-Tim-Bum Castle, the Film", a children's movie that has had a good international career in festivals such as Toronto Children's Festival (Best Film) and the Chicago Festival (Best Film). As a television director, Hamburger is responsible for the HBO produced series "Filhos do Carnaval". Its second season has been released in 2009, while the first season was nominated for The International Emmy Awards in 2006 and awarded Best TV Program of 2006 by the Brazilian Critics Association. Hamburger also directed the commended children's series "Castelo Ra-Tim-Bum" (1995) - which has won prizes all over the world, considered the best brazilian children's TV series, one episode of the highly-acclaimed " City of Men" series (2004) for TV Globo, among others. In his mid-20s, Cao directed five shorts which have won more than 15 international prizes. Therefore, he has been invited to important festivals, such as the "New Director, New Films" in New York.
