Albert Henry Hallatt appears in the UK census taken on 2nd April as an actor, boarding in Eastbourne and sharing accommodation with Violette (or Violette Lottie) May, whom he married on 8th May 1912 in Newcastle, presumably on tour. They had a daughter, registered Hero Violette Hallatt, sometime between July and September 1912 in Newcastle. He fought in World War One, initially enlisting in 5th City of London Rifles on 4th December 1915 and subsequently being transferred to the Royal Engineers in 1917 because of his proficiency as a horse driver. He was demobilised on 12th February 1919 at Chatham. The record of his war medals is unclear. Violette remarried in 1924, in Chorlton, Lancashire, where her father's family lived, suggesting separation or divorce from Henry.
