Alex Halpern is an award winning filmmaker, screenwriter, occasional actor and the founder of Post Factory NY. He founded Post Factory NY in 1996 with one Avid in a friend's apartment while working on his critically acclaimed film "Nine Good Teeth." By day, he rented his Avid to other independent filmmakers who were directing music videos, commercials and indie films; at night he worked on his own film. The response was tremendous, and Alex realized he had an opportunity to create a new kind post-production company to serve New York's indie film community. This facility would be built on two core concepts: flexible technology and inclusive community. He wanted to serve the needs of all filmmakers, from micro budget Indies to studio tent- poles. Recent credits include Academy Award Winner Spotlight, Hail Caesar, Collateral Beauty Show Me A Hero. 30 For 30's OJ: Made In America and The Jinx: The Life and Deaths of Robert Durst. While running Post Factory NY Alex continued to work as a filmmaker and screenwriter. His film Nine Good Teeth premiered on HBO, the BBC and CBC in 2003 after winning critical acclaim and international awards at festivals around the world. In 2005 he was hired by the Jim Henson company to develop the feature film "Westchester." In 2007/8 he was commissioned by the ICDDR.B Hospital in Dhaka, Bangladesh to create 6 short films highlighting the organization's critical research into solving cholera epidemics worldwide. From 2011 to 2015 Halpern spent his time developing screenplays and television shows while working as the CEO of Post Factory NY. In 2015 Alex and Post Factory NY joined the SIM GROUP in order to continue serving clients around the world for the foreseeable future. In 2016 Halpern broke off from the SIM Group to start his new production company Smoking Cat Entertainment with partners Rachel Kittner and Caryn Horowitz. Halpern is directing "The Tree of Knowledge," (2019) a stop motion film narrated by acclaimed writer and physicist Freeman Dyson. He is also completing work on his new screenplay "Khachapuri" with anticipated production start of spring 2019. He has other projects in various stages of development. As part of his work Alex is a member of the Writers Guild of North America and Post New York Alliance, where he continues to fiercely protect and promote the New York film community. He has been married to Caryn Horowitz, together they have two adult sons, Roman and Preston, along with two dogs, Bleach and Chunk, one fat orange cat, and two turtles.
