David Heinemann graduated from the Film Division at Columbia University, New York in 2001. While studying for his MFA in Film he directed, produced and edited two award-winning short films which played at US festivals: Last Minute Doubts and The Garden, both written by Shane Vahey. With his first student film he won a Directing Scholarship from GameWorks/World Studio Foundation in Los Angeles. A great admirer of the films of French auteur Eric Rohmer, in 2000 he won a Grand Marnier Fellowship Award for his essay on Rohmer, later published in the New York journal 'Film Comment.' He has written extensively on Rohmer's work. His paper from the conference on Rohmer at the University of Chicago is published in the book 'Rohmer et les Autres' (France, May 2007). David teaches film studies and practical filmmaking.
