Paul Hendy

Paul Hendy is a scriptwriter, author, director and producer. In 2016, Paul wrote, directed and produced the short film, The Last Laugh which sees three British comedy icons, Tommy Cooper, Eric Morecambe and Bob Monkhouse sitting in a dressing room discussing the secret of comedy and what it means to be 'funny'. The film won several awards including Best UK Film and Best UK Short at the Manchester Film Festival (2017), the prestigious Audience Award at the Oxford Film Festival and Best Comedy Drama at the Los Angeles Independent Film Festival. Paul has a showbiz age of 42 but don't ask him his real age as he gets tongue-tied and comes out in a nervous rash. Although he never made it as high as the C-List, if you looked at the telly in the late twentieth century, you might have seen Paul hosting shows such as 'The Disney Club', 'Don't Try This At Home' with Davina McCall and 'Wheel of Fortune', which had been running for twenty-three years until Paul hosted one series and they canceled it! He also hosted the BAFTA nominated 'Dear Mr Barker' and the cult classic Stash the Cash ('cult' meaning it was rubbish but students liked it!) His novels 'Diary Of A C-List Celeb' (in no way autobiographical... honest!) and 'Who Killed Simon Peters?' were published by Transworld in 2004 and 2009 and were subsequently translated into Russian and Greek. They received great critical acclaim and can be found in the bargain bins of most reputable bookshops. Alongside a career in writing and television, Paul has always been passionate about theatre. In 2005, Paul formed Evolution Productions with his wife, Emily. Since then, the company has gone from strength to strength and Paul is extremely proud of their reputation for producing some of the best and most successful theatre productions in the country. Paul has also directed and produced a UK Tour of Morecambe, (an Award Winning one-man play about the life of Eric Morecambe) and a UK tour of 'Mister Maker and The Shapes, Live'. Paul's greatest productions to date are his three children, Freddie, Poppy and Jago, who are always the first to tell him just how terrible his jokes are!
