While watching movies as a child in Reading, Pennsylvania, USA, Ron Foreman recognized that someone must be responsible for the overall look of each film, and he decided that he wanted that job. Directly after his high-school graduation, he moved to Los Angeles intent on becoming an art director and entered the Chouinard Art Institute, the forerunner to California Institute of the Arts. After college he interviewed for an assistant's position on a feature film and was hired as art director instead. Several films later, true to his plan, he won the position of production designer.
