Sam Garbarski was born the 13th of February 1948 in Munich, Germany. In 1970 he founded the advertising agency Garbarski Euro Rscg, where he directed more than 50 commercials, among which several won awards in many international festivals (Cannes, New York, London...). Since 1997 he has directed several short films, "La Dinde", « "La Vie, la Mort, le Foot" and "Joyeux Noël Rachid", all of which were big hits in festivals and benefited from a large TV broadcast. 2003, his first feature film "Le Tango des Rashevski" was selected for the Jerusalem Int'l. Film Festival 2004 and won Jerusalem Municipality Prize for Best Feature Film. The film won the Jean Carmet Award 2004 for the performance of Tania Garbarski and Rudi Rosenberg, and was part of the official selection in more than twenty international festivals. 2007, his second feature film "Irina Palm" was selected for more than thirty festivals (Berlinale, Karlovy Vary, ...), won many prestigious awards (David di Donatello, Globo d'Oro, Silver Ribbon, best European film, best European director...) and was distributed in more than 40 countries... 2010, "Quartier Lointain" was part of the Rome Filmfest selection and many others and distributed in more than 20 countries. 2013, "Vijay and I" premiered at the Locarno Filmfestival, Piazza Grande and was distributed in more than 20 countries. 2017, "Bye, bye Germany" was the opening film of the Berlinale Special Galas, and part of the selection at more than 30 festivals. The film won in China at the Golden Silk Road (best feature film 2017), the San Francisco Film Critics Circle Award, the Norway Audience Award and was distributed in more than 30 countries.
