Filmmaker Scott Garen has over twenty-five years of successful and highly diversified production experience as a writer, director, producer and executive producer of network television specials, documentaries, music videos and dramatic programs. Scott's documentary experience was honed on 'Between the Wars' - the CBS broadcast of a Mobil Showcase Presentation of 16 documentaries, hosted by Eric Sevareid; numerous independent documentaries and reality programs for HBO, PBS and syndicated television; as well as 75 award-winning documentaries for the Channel One Network and MTV, including environmental documentaries with Jean-Michel Cousteau. Scott's expertise in the production of entertainment specials was sharpened through an overall deal to write, produce and direct with the Walt Disney Company where he created numerous high-budget prime-time specials for NBC as well as breakthrough projects for Disney's home video arm. Scott also created prime-time entertainment specials for Columbia/Rastar, Dick Clark Productions and Johnny Carson. His work on the NBC telefilm, 'Treasure Island', extended Scott's expertise into the arena of dramatic production. Music video production added to Scott's dexterity with film and video through his creation of high-end music videos for Elton John, Michael Bolton, LL Cool J and Bobby McFerrin, among others. Scott's production of A Thousand Roads, the dramatic, widescreen signature film of the Smithsonian's National Museum of the American Indian was selected to premiere at the Sundance film festival and screens each hour in the museum's surround-sound theater for its 4-million annual visitors. In the corporate world, Scott produced and directed an NBC prime-time television film for Steve Wynn that launched Wynn's casino complex at Treasure Island and promotional and edutainment films with Learning Tree International for Intel, Motorola, Philips and General Electric. This uniquely diversified experience allows Scott to draw on a wide range of production techniques his approach to fiction and non-fiction material - from music, entertainment and the environment to the story of a corporation. Scott is also the Founding CEO and Chief Storyteller of Familybox.com - a unique software platform that enables people to capture and preserve their family stories, life lessons, rich media and documents and to share this material, privately, with their family, friends and with future generations. Many of Scott's television projects were among the top-ten rated programs of their respective weeks. His work has earned more than 45 International Awards while his music video with Billy Joel received a Grammy nomination for best music video which Scott considers one of his greatest honors, because every filmmaker secretly wants to be a rock star. Scott has a B.A. and M.F.A. in Film and Video from the California Institute of the Arts. He lives in Boulder, Colorado with his wife, Kari, and their daughter, Ventana.
