Dave Knapp is a playwright, screenwriter, actor and director who began his career in the vibrant New York Theatre scene of the 1980's and 1990's. As a graduate of Fordham University's College at Lincoln Center, Dave holds two degrees in Theatre and English Literature. He prides himself as a film and theatre historian. In 1999 Dave's screenplay adaptation of his original play WRECKAGE was named first runner-up in the East Coast Independent Film Development Competition. Early in Dave's career, Dave worked as personal assistant to New York nightlife maverick Steve Rubell of Studio 54. Dave's accomplishments are prominently chronicled in Anthony Haden-Guest's tell-all book, THE LAST PARTY. With his theatre company, Barry Tom Productions, Dave produced and directed Off- Broadway productions of all his original plays including Cellar Play, Alien Uncoverings and Wreckage. He directed the only Off- Off Broadway production of David Mamet's EDMOND with written consent from the playwright himself. Dave's experience extends beyond the stage to work both on-screen and behind the camera in the world of independent film. Several acting credits listed on IMDB boast leading roles in the films THE RECORD DEAL & DEADLY PUNKETTE'S. Dave is in production for his original screenplay BACKGROUND, a black comedy based on shared experiences on set by he and his writing partner, Kelly Cole. The script lampoons turmoil and contradictions within the entertainment industry through the eyes of two very different hungry actors. It is a powerful and satirical take on the "glamorous world of Hollywood". BACKGROUND is slated to go into production in late 2018 with Dave at the helm. CRYPTOGRAM, another original screenplay by Dave, is in development with Desert Wind films. CRYPYOGRAM is a time-distortion mystery based on true events in Phoenix, Arizona
