Tommy Lang Productions, under the direction of one the veteran producers-directors of Israeli cinema, is dedicated to the production of specialty films, particularly art, music, and culture documentaries aimed at broad audiences. Over the past three decades, Tommy Lang has produced a rich body of work that embraces art films and documentaries on art and culture, filmed theater productions and musical performances for Israeli and German television stations, anthropological explorations of ethnic communities and social phenomena, and more. The projects he produced and directed span subjects and figures as diverse as Nathan the Wise and Orna Porath, Itzik Manger and Raphael Klachkin, children's festivals, entertainment programs, and more. Most of the projects were in some way or other related to cultural phenomena and youth programs. Tommy Lang directs his films according to the concept of the filmmaking movement "Dogme 95". That is, the photos are taken only by hand, 360 degrees, without artificial lighting, up to three takes, and up to six shooting days. Production of a documentary movie in the area of the performing arts, especially on a musical topic, requires special expertise, and it is positioned somewhere at the intersection of record keeping and art. When the subject revolves around children, the task is even more complex. By nature, the art of the performer is partially spontaneous. A documentary movie, by contrast, is planned in advance and highly structured, to the last detail. A documentary about the art of the performer is almost a contradiction in terms: a premeditated look at spontaneity. Tommy Lang, a member of the Israeli Film Academy, has made it his lifelong ambition to explore this fragile territory.
