Margot Lander is generally considered by ballet aficionados as among the most important--if not THE most important--Danish ballerinas of the 20th century. A student at the Royal Danish Ballet School in 1917, after she graduated she came back to the school in 1928, became a principal in 1933 and in 1942 was awarded the position of prima ballerina. She was married to ballet director Harold Lander from 1932-1950. After the divorce she retired from the field, and died in 1961.
