Saxophonist, composer, songwriter and conductor, educated at the Oberlin Conservatory (Bachelor of Music) and Manhattan School of Music (Master of Music [scholarships] ). He was a member of the Sauter-Finegan band and the Chico Hamilton Quintet. Coming to Hollywood in 1958, he did free-lance studio recordings, and formed his own quintet in 1959. Joining ASCAP in 1959, his popular-song compositions include "Mirage for Miles", "Ecstasy", "Half and Half", "Count Your Change", and "Abstraction".
