Born in Leningrad in 1954. Graduated from the Leningrad State Institute of Theatre Music and Cinematography (Katsman and Dodin's class). Acted with the Tomsk Young Viewers' Theatre from 1979 till 1980. During the same year became an actor with the Maly Drama Theatre. People's Artist of Russia (2004). Has played more than 20 roles. The most notable of those are Yegor in The House, Nikolai in Stars in the Morning Sky, Lopakhin in The Cherry Orchard. Today the actor plays Muzhik in Mumu, Petr Zhitov in Brothers and Sisters, Lebyadkin in The Devils, Glagolev in A Play Without a Title, Barukh Naileben in The Disappearance, Serebryakov in Uncle Vanya, King of France in King Lear, Don Armado in Love's Labour's Lost, Mostovskoy in Life and Fate, James Tyrone in Long Day's Journey into Night. Winner of the Golden Sofit Award; and Vladislav Strzhelchik Prize for the role of Barukh Naileben in The Disappearance (2002); winner of Stanislavsky Award for the role of Serebryakov (2003). Has appeared in the films The Fantastic Tale, The Snowstorm, Two Hussars, The Tarantula, Vavilov, The Black Marine Guard, and Mount!
