“I'm not a cinephile. My films don't reference films. I'm more interested in rhythm and feeling.” Considered one of the most prominent figures in American independent cinema from the 2000s onward, July has built a multifaceted career that spans films, books, photography, visual arts and performance. Her style focuses on finding the peculiarity in the everyday, human bonds and the sensitive perception of life. In addition, it is common to find in her work curious and strange characters, often on the fringes of the norm, and on several occasions she plays them herself. Her debut feature, Me and You and Everyone We Know, received a special jury prize at Sundance and the Caméra d'Or at the Cannes Film Festival. In the audiovisual field, she has also directed music videos, video art and fashion campaigns.
