Gitanjali Kapila is a Chicago-based filmmaker and academic. She is in post-production on her new short, Bat, which shot March 2019. In October 2018 she completed Breathing above the Treeline which enjoyed a robust reception on the festival circuit. It has had 13 live screenings world-wide since May 1, 2019. It has also been awarded 4 Best Narrative Short Film Awards as well as nominated in several categories Gitanjali's new film, Bat, was awarded an Illinois Arts Council Grant in 2019 and a School of the Art Institute faculty enrichment grant in 2020 to cover the costs of post-production. She is in development on a feature Christmas comedy, Sandra Claus which was a finalist for the 2019 Raine Filmmaker Award sponsored by the Princeton Independent Film Festival. She received her MFA from Columbia University in writing and directing.
