Matthew Alexander Kaufman was born in 1984 at the Whittington Hospital in Highgate, London, England. He is of English and Welsh descent. Kaufman was brought up in Milton Keynes, Buckinghamshire. He studied drama & theatre at Stratford-upon-Avon College from 2000-01, and in 2007 he was accepted into (but did not attend) The Poor School drama school in King's Cross, London. In 2021 he began his Master's Degree in Screen Acting at the University of Salford. He appeared in his first (uncredited) film role as a male escort opposite James Corden in Heroes and Villains (2006) and in 2009-10 he had small roles acting with Timothy Spall in Desert Flower, and with Tom Conti in A Closed Book (later re-titled Blind Revenge). Kaufman was the Executive Producer on director Stephen Fingleton's breakthrough short film, the BAFTA-longlisted Shirin (2011) and provided voice work for Fingleton's 2013 short SLR, starring Liam Cunningham. In 2013 and 2014 Kaufman wrote and directed two short films for the London Science Fiction Film Festival. In 2019 he joined the cast of the audio drama series The Sojourn, and in 2021 he provided more voice work and contributed to the soundtrack of Stephen Fingleton's second feature film Nightride. Since 2007 Kaufman has been best known for his extensive work in television commercials in the UK and Germany. He was the face of the streaming music service Deezer in Germany from 2014-2017, and fronted a memorable series of Axe/Lynx shaving lotion advertisements directed by Cloé Bailly in 2019.
