His father was Gedeon Izrailevich Leyzerovich, a professor at the Odessa Conservatory. After graduating from the music school of P. Stolyarskiy in the class of his mother, Mogilevskiy entered the Moscow Conservatory, where he studied with G. Neuhaus and Ya. Zak, and almost immediately won the prestigious Queen Elizabeth International Piano Competition in Brussels (1964) . Mogilevskiy's performance was recognized as a sensation: the audience greeted him standing. The "Time" magazine wrote with noticeable shock that an hour and a half before the performance in the final, 18-year-old Mogilevskiy was serenely playing table tennis. Further Mogilevskiy's career developed very successfully. His US tour was produced by the famous Sol Hurok. In 1973, Mogilevskiy received an award in the United States for the best interpretation of the year (Third Concerto for Piano and Orchestra by Sergei Rachmaninoff, Moscow Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by Kirill Kondrashin). In the second half of the 1970s, Mogilevskiy traveled all over the world with an orchestra led by Yevgeni Svetlanov. Since 1992 he has been a professor at the Brussels Conservatory.
