Shep Morgan has produced, written and directed specials and series for NBC, CBS and PBS as well as Westinghouse and Metromedia Television. He has won every major award in broadcasting from a National Emmy for the controversial and critically-applauded PBS series 'The Great American Dream Machine' to the coveted George Foster Peabody Award for 'Bill Moyers Journal' and the Golden Gate Award at the San Francisco Film Festival for 'Moments Without Proper Names' - a documentary on the life and work of photographer/director and author Gordon Parks. Morgan produced three dramas for the PBS American Playhouse series -Solomon Northrup's Odyssey, Denmark Vesey's Rebellion and Charlotte Forten's Mission. He also co-created and produced the popular bi-lingual PBS sitcom series Que Pasa U.S.A.? Morgan directed the PBS Specials 'Eric Hoffer: The Crowded Life', a profile on the famed longshoreman-philosopher and author which won a George Washington Foundation Freedom Medal and an Ohio State Award, and 'The Donsinger Women And Their Handyman Jack', featuring the last interview with Tennessee Williams before his untimely death which was judged Best Program at the San Francisco Independent Film Festival, as well as 'The Best', a nationally-syndicated special of American achievers which won a regional Emmy, and Carnival in Rio (1983) for the Playboy Channel featuring Arnold Schwarzenegger on location at Rio's Carnival. Morgan began his career at WCBS-TV as an Associate Producer for the acclaimed documentary series Eye On New York. He went on to produce 'For Women Only' hosted by Aline Saarinen at WNBC-TV, and for WNEW-TV the innovative docu-series 'Helluva Town' hosted by Gene Rayburn which won a New York Emmy. He was the Executive Producer of Earth Lab for Group W/Westinghouse TV in which children explored ecology and science on location across the country. The series won an Action for Children's Television commendation and a George Washington Freedom Foundation medal. As the Executive Producer for National Programming at Miami's PBS affiliate WPBT-TV, Morgan created a varied slate of acclaimed nationally-broadcast award-winning series and specials including 'Grandpeople', a series designed to change attitudes about aging, which was a finalist for a National Community Service Emmy, American Journey, featuring columnist and author Richard Reeves retracing the journey of Alexis De Tocqueville across America, 'Television On Trial', in which Richard Reeves examines the controversial live coverage of the Ronny Zamora murder trial - the first in Miami to admit cameras into the courtroom - and the winner of an ABA Silver Gavel Award and an Ohio State Award, 'A Day Without Sunshine', an investigative documentary about problems facing Florida's migrant workers narrated by James Earl Jones and the winner of a Golden State Award at the San Francisco Film Festival, and 'Wellsprings', an overview of the battle to save coastal wetlands narrated by Jose Ferrer, and the winner of a CINE Golden Eagle.
