“I’ve always really wanted to work on things that I would like to watch; movies that I would like to see.” Ebon Moss-Bachrach was born in New York City to Renee Moss and Eric Bachrach, who run a music school in Springfield, Massachusetts. In high school, he joined the school band and developed a passion for performing. Once in college, he initially pursued American history and music studies, but he finally graduated from Columbia University with a B.A. in English Literature. During his first year of college, Moss-Bachrach took an acting class out of curiosity and quickly found his true calling. He then apprenticed at the Williamstown Theatre Festival to gain experience in theater and decided to fully dedicate himself to acting. He also studied the Meisner technique at the William Esper Studio in New York City. Preferring the vibrance of the New York City theater scene to Hollywood, Moss-Bachrach focused on stage work and smaller roles, embracing the lifestyle and environment that suited him. Though he had been working steadily, his breakout role came as Desi in the series Girls, which showcased his talent and versatility. This was followed by notable roles in The Punisher and Ardor, but his second major breakthrough came with his portrayal of Richie in The Bear. This role earned him two Primetime Emmy Awards, widespread recognition, and opened doors to even more diverse projects.
