Billy O'Brien was born in Cork, Ireland. He studied film at Dun Laoghaire College of Art and Design (now IADT) and received an MA at The Royal College of Art in London. The Tale of the Rat That Wrote his short film was BAFTA nominated in 2000. Isolation his first feature film premiered in Midnight Madness at Toronto in 2005 to critical acclaim. It won Best Director and Best Film at Fantastic Fest in 2006. His latest film I Am Not A Serial Killer was launched at SXSW in 2016 and was nominated for 3 BIFAs and won several other awards. He has directed television commercials, music promos and short films all over the world with fellow Irish director Alan Friel, working under the directing duo name of Billy & Alan.
