Javier Olivera

Argentine-born filmmaker and visual artist Javier Olivera was initially trained in painting with Argentine artists Luis Felipe Noé and Eduardo Stupía. He later studied film and video at UCLA, US, and Iberoamerican literature at Fundación José Ortega y Gasset of Spain. In film he co-wrote and directed The Visitant (El visitante) (1999); Mika My Spanish War (Mika, mi guerra de España) (2013) and The Shadow (La sombra) (2015). All films have obtained praising reviews and were exhibited at international film festivals. In 2007 released on Argentina's Public Channel the TV movie Floresta, based on the play by playwright and actor Rafael Spregelburd. In TV has directed several fiction series in Argentina, Spain and the US. Olivera has developed film projects and written scripts for production companies from Argentina, Spain and the US. In the documentary field Olivera has directed series and videos for UNICEF, INAI (National Institute of Indigenous Affaires of Argentina), Encuentro, Bacua, Canal 7 (Argentina) and Telesur (Venezuela). Olivera has been a visiting teacher at Escuela Internacional de Cine y TV of San Antonio de los Baños, Cuba. Presently he teaches screenwriting and directing at Uruguay Film Campus and gives workshops in Argentina and Spain. Alongside, Javier has developed since 1990 a body of work that covers paintings, photographs, videos and video installations, which have been exhibited in solo and group shows in Argentina and abroad.
