Florina Luican, was born on 27th March 1946 in Bucharest, as daughter of the famous Romanian folk and church singer Ion L u i c a n. She was a "Romanian type" beauty with black hair, green eyes and very red lips, who was soon remarked by film director Geo Saizescu, while still a student in school, giving her film debut already in 1963, in his Romanian comedy "A Midsummer Day's Smile" ("Un Suras in plina Vara"), after which she studied "Acting" for four years at the Romanian "Theatre and Film Institute" (Institutul de Arta Teatrala si Cinematografica "Ion Luca Caragiale") (IATC), which she finished in 1968. In 1974 she joined the Romanian Chidren Theatre "Ion Creanga" in Bucharest, starting with roles of the antique "Greek Tragedy" by Eschil, Euripide and Sofocle, continuing with parts of "average" people in a Latin American Spanish Theatre "potpourri" by Freddy Antiles, Emilio Carballido, Osvaldo Dragun, Antonio Larreta, Pablo Nerude, Viana Oduvaldo, but playing also many animals, insects, fairies and other "phantastic" characters from international fairy tales, Christmas plays, children stories etc., as the leading role "Snow White", starting from 1984, for 12 years..., giving the Evil Fairy in Carlo Collodi's "Pinocchio" for 17 years..., the Step Mother in "Cinderella", the Lazy Lion in Frank Baum's "Wizzard of Oz", Emma Micawber in Charles Dickens' "David Copperfield" in 1987 etc. ... She acted also in Hans Christian Andersen's "Two Nightingales" in 1996 and in "The Snow Queen" in 2000, as well as in many other Romanian fairy tales... Beside this intense theatre activity, she played in many more films, e.g. the main role in "Adela", a movie made by director Mircea Veroiu after Garabet Ibraileanu's classic novel, but taught also acting to children in the theatre's Club for youngsters called "Micul Artist"...
