Golden Globe and Emmy Award-winner Michael Manheim has produced 15 theatrical and television movies that have received 3 Emmys, 2 Golden Globes and over 35 other international awards and nominations. A creative, hands-on producer, Manheim's dedication to the quality and integrity of his projects has firmly established him as a respected filmmaker in the U.S. and abroad. Educated at Verde Valley School and Harvard University he spent ten years working as an executive and producer-for-hire - first in television at David Wolper Productions and then in theatrical motion pictures as a Vice President of Embassy Pictures - before setting up his own production company. The Manheim Company was launched through a deal with NBC Productions which resulted in his production of eight television movies including "Roe vs Wade" starring Holly Hunter, Kathy Bates and Amy Madigan. The landmark drama won twenty awards including the Best Dramatic Special Emmy for Manheim, with Hunter receiving an Emmy for her performance as Jane Roe and Amy Madigan a Golden Globe for her role as Roe's attorney Sarah Weddington. Manheim's other productions have included "Last Flight Out", shot entirely on location in Thailand recounting the last civilian flight out of Saigon starring James Earl Jones, Richard Crenna and Oscar winner Dr. Haing S. Ngor; "Winnie" starring Meredith Baxter as a mentally retarded woman; the critically acclaimed Black drama "Zooman" written by Pulitzer Prize winner Charles Fuller and the Jimmy Woods starrer "Dirty Pictures" directed by Frank Pierson and written by Ilene Chaiken, about the Mapplethorpe obscenity trial in Cincinnati which won eleven international awards including the 2000 Golden Globe for Best Television Movie. Manheim's theatrical motion picture productions have included Paramount's "Leap of Faith" starring Steve Martin, Debra Winger and Liam Neeson and Scott Frank's first theatrical film "Plain Clothes". Upcoming productions for The Manheim Company include studio and independent theatrical films, a television series and a Broadway musical. Manheim is on the Board of Governors of the Producers Guild of America. When not producing, he has designed and built seven houses and been an unpaid apprentice chef in two of LA's top Italian restaurants.
