Norma Marcos is a French filmmaker of Palestinian origins, born in Bethlehem West Bank-Palestine who is now living in Paris. She studied Journalism and Communication at the University of Aix en Provence in France and at Stanford University, USA. In 1989 she was assistant to film director Yves Loiseau for a film on Yasser Arafat produced by the French channel ARTE. In 1990, she co-directed a documentary on Bethlehem produced by Canal+. In 1994, she directed The Veiled Hope, a documentary on Palestinian women produced by the French channel France3. It was broadcast on more than ten European TV channels and is distributed by Women Make Movies in New York. In 2004, she won Grand Prix (Grand Prize, SOPADIN) for Best Screenplay among 357 scripts: Nouzha , which is an adaptation of a Palestinian novel by Sahar Khalifa, translated and edited by the prestigious publisher Flammarion. She has directed other documentaries such as Waiting for Ben Gurion 2006, Fragments of a Lost Palestine in 2011, And Wahdon (Alone), a short feature film which was shot in Lebanon in 2013 and broadcast by France3 Corse. Her films have participated in many international festivals including those in Amsterdam, Rotterdam, and Arab Film Festival at IMA in Paris, San Francisco, Boston, Chicago, La Rochelle, and Kerala, in India... In 2013 Riveneuve editing house published her book The Veil of Despair: Women, sexuality and feminism in Palestine. In 2017-2018 she directed and produced A Long Hot Summer in Palestine. The film has been screened in France in more than 16 cinema theaters in 2018 and will be screened in four more cinemas from June to September 2018. It has then been selected by: the International Film Festival of Tetouan, at Sardinia Arab film festival, at Women Film Festival in Créteil, at ERAAP Film Festival in the region of Rhône-Alpes-Auvergne in France, Arab film festival at IMA (Institut du Monde Arabe) in Paris. The festival will take place in June-July 2018. The film was awarded in April 2018 a Special Mention at the 16th International Festival Segni della Notte (Urbino, Italy). 2018- She is writing a feature script: Sami, Like Dew Drops on thorns. Norma Marcos is the winner of several international awards, including: Winner of the SOPADIN competition for her feature film script Nouzha. Winner of Villa Medicis competition for the documentary Retrouver Jerusalem. Winner of "Voice of America " Radio training program. Winner of Knight Fellowships program at Stanford University. Winner of the Umverteilen Foundation author funding.
