Jill Martin was a British musical theatre star born in Redruth in Cornwall. Her first theatrical break came in the late 1950s when she under-studied Julie Andrews in the West End production of 'My Fair Lady'. In 1979 she took over that leading role of Eliza from Liz Robertson and in the 2000s revival with Martine McCutcheon in the lead she played Mrs Eynsford-Hill, making her the only actress to appear in all three British productions. She also appeared in 'Les Miserables' and was an original cast member when it opened at the Barbican. She was not known for television roles, though she did feature in Victoria Wood's 'Acorn Antiques'. Jill Martin died on Christmas Eve, 2016, aged 78.
