Alice Ripley is an actor, singer, songwriter, live performer, recording artist, and mixed media artist who was born in California "six years before we landed on the moon, seven weeks before the Beatles landed on the Ed Sullivan show, three weeks after John F. Kennedy was assassinated, and eleven days before Christmas," as she has put it. Ripley is known for her extensive work on Broadway, including the Pulitzer Prize-winning rock opera, Next to Normal, for which she earned the 2009 Tony Award for Best Actress in a Musical. She is also known for her work in television (#Girlboss; Outed) and film (Sugar!, for which she won three acting awards in 2016). Ripley was raised in various Ohio and Pennsylvania towns and attended college first at DePauw University (majoring in Vocal Performance), then Kent State University (graduating with a BFA in Musical Theatre). Following college, she was active in community theatre in San Diego and subsequently received her Actor's Equity card at the La Jolla Playhouse through a production of Silent Edward, a musical written by Des McAnuff, who was Artistic Director of the La Jolla Playhouse at the time and who would later direct Ripley in her Broadway debut in The Who's Tommy (original cast). Additional Broadway work: original casts of American Psycho, The Rocky Horror Show, James Joyce's The Dead, Side Show (co-nominated for Tony Award for Best Actress), King David, and Sunset Boulevard; replacement cast of the original Les Misérables (Fantine). Additional award: Helen Hayes for Outstanding Actress in a Musical (Next to Normal). Nominations: Drama Desk (Next to Normal), Outer Critic Circle (Next to Normal), and three Helen Hayes (Shakespeare in Hollywood, Tell Me on a Sunday, and Company). Ripley has also done plays: Clybourne Park, A Civil War Christmas, Wild Animals You Should Know, and The Vagina Monologues. Additional film work: Bear With Us, Muckland, The Way I Remember It, Isn't It Delicious, Sing Along, and The Adulterer. TV: 30 Rock, Blue Bloods, Royal Pains, and Hee Haw. Ripley is also an accomplished musician and has written and produced her own music. She performs regularly. Recordings include: "Daily Practice: Vol 1," "Everything's Fine," "Outtasite" and "Ripley EP," as well as numerous Broadway cast and compilation albums. She hosts her own YouTube channel and has produced over 300 ridiculous videos for an insatiable audience. Each fall, Alice returns to Buenos Aires, Argentina for the annual Next to Casi Normales concerts, co-starring Jennifer Damiano, Josefina Scaglione, and Fernando Dente.
