Sidney Roberson was born in Edmonton, North London, the middle of seven children and attended Enfield Grammar School. A life-long Spurs fan he became interested in body-building in his teens and in 1963 he won third place in the Mister Universe contest, later becoming a personal trainer to Reggie Kray. Sid entered the industry through his first wife Brenda's acquaintance with director Ridley Scott, for whom he became the face of Strongbow cider as well as directing numerous commercials himself, notably the Happiness is a Cigar Called Hamlet, to the strains of Bach's Air on a G String. In addition to directing episodes of popular television shows Sid also pursued a second career as a noted stills photographer and, although he retired from world of entertainment, at the age of seventy he enrolled as a mature student at London university, gaining a BA in politics and an MSc in international relations.
