Mika Ronkainen is an award-winning film director and screenwriter from northern Finland. Ronkainen's latest work, psychological crime drama series All the Sins (2019) which he directed and co-created with Merja Aakko, has been highly successful both in his native country and around the world. All the Sins (2019) season 1, with more than 3 million views on public broadcaster YLE Areena's streaming service, has been sold to over 30 countries. Season 2 was released simultaneously in Finnish cinemas and Elisa Viihde's streaming service in October 2020. The series is produced by Ilkka Matila for MRP Matila Röhr Productions and distributed internationally by NBCUniversal. Ronkainen started directing documentary films at the age of 26. His latest documentary, Finnish Blood Swedish Heart (2012), was awarded with two Finnish Oscars (Jussi Awards) for Best Documentary Film and Best Music in a Film. After having created internationally successful documentary films Finnish Blood Swedish Heart (2012), Freetime Machos (2009) and Screaming Men (2003), screened at several international film festivals including Sundance, Tribeca Film Festiva, IDFA, Karlovy Vary, and Toronto Hot Docs, Ronkainen ventured into the world of scripted drama with All the Sins (2019). In 2013, Variety magazine selected Ronkainen as one of the ten up-and-coming European directors to watch. Ronkainen is one of the founders of Air Guitar World Championships which has been organized annually in his hometown Oulu, Finland, since 1996. Ronkainen was born on August 6th, 1970, in Kuusamo in northern Finland.
