Former ballet dancer, computer programmer, theoretical physicist (Ph.D. London 1965). Diploma of the London School of Film Technique, 1968 Lighting cameraman (1968-1972). Taught film-making at Slade School, University College, London 1970-1978, then Royal College of Art (1982-1987), then London Film School (1988-2016) Author of many articles on film history and analysis and the books "Film Style and Technology: History and Analysis 3rd. Edition" (2009) and "Moving Into Pictures" (2006)
