Melanie Salomon was born in and grew up Adelaide, South Australia. She worked initially in comedy and then as an actress in theatre, television, and cinema from 1981-1995. Her one woman play Pell Mell, which she wrote and performed in, premiered at Belvoir St. Theatre, Sydney in 1986 and won the 1987 AWGIE Award for Best Comedy. Directed by Geoffrey Rush, it toured nationally to sell out shows and was included in the 1986 Adelaide Festival. She has written a feature length screenplay about Gustav Mahler and a comedy serial for ABC Radio National.
