Crispian Sallis - Production Designer - Biography - March 2017 Three-times Oscar nominated and Emmy-winning Set Decorator, Crispian has been Production Designer of Eran Creevy's 'Welcome To The Punch' starring James McAvoy and Mark Strong, as well as Chris Menges' 'Crisscross' starring and produced by Goldie Hawn filmed in Key West and Miami, Florida. Other films Crispian has designed include Shane Meadow's 'A Room for Romeo Brass' and 'Once Upon A Time In The Midlands', Marc Evans' 'My Little Eye' and 'Trauma' starring Colin Firth, 'Colour Me Kubrick' starring John Malkovich, 'Keeping Mum' starring Kristin Scott Thomas, Maggie Smith and Rowan Atkinson and 'The Infiltrator' starring Bryan Cranston, directed by Brad Furman. He was nominated for Academy Awards for Best Art Direction for James Cameron's 'Aliens', Bruce Beresford's 'Driving Miss Daisy' and Ridley Scott's 'Gladiator' and was nominated two years in succession for a Primetime Emmy for The Tudors, winning one. Other films Crispian has set decorated include Oliver Stone's 'JFK', Terry Gilliam's 'Twelve Monkey's', Michael Cimino's 'Desperate Hours', Paul Anderson's 'Event Horizon', Mike Figgis' 'The Browning Version', Stephen Sommer's 'The Jungle Book', Neil Jordan's 'Breakfast on Pluto', Ridley Scott's 'Hannibal' and Tony Scott's 'Revenge' as well as James Bond films, 'Octopussy' and 'A View To A Kill', and 'Top Secret' among many others. In 2014 he was set decorator on Brian Helgeland's 'Legend', starring Tom Hardy as the Kray brothers. Crispian started in the film industry straight from school as Michael Winner's P.A. on 'The Big Sleep' starring Robert Mitchum and James Stewart before joining Ridley Scott's 'Alien' as the Runner in the production office where he was spotted by Sir Ridley and then UK Head of Twentieth Century Fox Peter Beale sketching a design for the spaceship Nostromo and was moved to the Art Department where he has worked ever since... Work as a Junior Draughtsman on 'Nijinsky', directed by Herb Ross and Franklin Shaffner's 'Sphinx' followed. He was 20 years old when, as a Junior Draughtsman on his first 007 film, 'For Your Eyes Only', he was asked by Production Designer Peter Lamont to set decorate his first film sets, Margaret Thatcher's kitchen at No.10 Downing Street and Q's Laboratory. He has just finished designing and set decorating Nobel-winning Laureate J.M.Coetzee's 'Waiting for the Barbarians' starring Sir Mark Rylance and Johnny Depp, directed by Ciro Guerra and produced by Michael Fitzgerald, filmed in Morocco and Rome. In his spare time, Crispian has completed many interior design commissions and written several spec screenplays. He lives in London and has two children both born in America. His father is the well known British character actor, Peter Sallis O.B.E., best known for the BBC's longest ever running comedy series, 'Last of the Summer Wine' as well as providing the voice of Wallace in Aardman's adored children's film series, the Wallace and Gromit films.
