Minor-league baseball player who was a pitcher in the Pittsburgh Pirates farm system; better known as a manager, coach (for the Los Angeles Angels in the American League) and as a scout (for the Angels and the former Montreal Expos). In 1954, he managed the Waco Pirates in the Big State (B) League to a 105-win season; this team has been called one of the 25 best minor-league teams of all time. His son Dennis Paepke played in the major leagues as a catcher for the Kansas City Royals.
