Gary Parker is one of America's least known and most experienced filmmakers. (See his interview with NPR's Scott Simon on Gary's LinkedIn profile.) For more than 25 years he has worked as an Emmy-winning writer, producer, and film doctor on more than 400 films. (IMDb lists barely a tenth of them.) His clients include every major documentary network -- Discovery, PBS, Nat Geo, Animal Planet, History, Smithsonian, and others -- and major production companies on five continents. Gary works in every nonfiction genre, including history, science, nature, adventure, true crime, and reality. The Nielsens reveal that his films not only hit the target rating but typically surpass it -- sometimes astronomically. Before moving into television, Gary worked as a writer and editor at Destination Discovery -- a magazine of new journalism that published outstanding storytellers from Isaac Asimov to Jan Morris. Now Gary is applying his experience as a documentary filmmaker to drama. He finds riveting nonfiction books overlooked by Hollywood that can be turned into Emmy- and Oscar-caliber scripts, be produced on lean budgets, and yield hefty profits.
