Top international directors like to bring in John Paval to portray powerful men, working alongside top international talents. Most lately he played Thomas Moore, head of a global lobbying powerhouse, working with Pierre Niney and Laurent Stocker as his employees, in French director Frédéric Tellier's eco-thriller Goliath. Earlier, the legendary Greek director Costa Gavras cast him in the role of Paul Frost, the power broker from Goldman Sachs who ruthlessly sets in motion his associate Gabriel Byrne to engineer the takeover of a global bank led by the well know French actor Gad El Maleh in the financial thriller 'Le Capital' . Elsewhere, the iconoclastic director Leos Carax brought John in for a turn as a singing police detective bearing down on the suspect played by Adam Driver in the musical murder mystery Annette. And, John also appeared as the sympathetic Dr. Walsh, the personal physician to Jackie Kennedy (Natalie Portman) who comes to her side that fatal night of November 22, 1963, in Chilean film director Pablo Larrain's "Jackie" (2016). An avid theater actor, John has portrayed roles like Senator Harrison Howell in Lee Blakeley's staging of Cole Porter's "Kiss Me Kate" at the prestigious Chatelet Theatre in Paris, Doctor Glas in Hjalmar Söderberg's "Docteur Glas" at the Avignon Theatre Festival (2011-2014), and Andrew Ladd in Albert Gurney's "Love Letters" (Avignon Theatre Festival, 1999-2002). Other notable film appearances include playing Indiana Jones in a series of short films (and a Super Bowl commercial) co-produced by Lucasfilms, a NY City cop trying in vain to keep his partner from killing an innocent black women in Haitian director Raoul Peck's 'Corps Plongés', an international arms merchant in Colline Serrault's 'Lumières sur un Massacre', a top Hollywood producer in Greek director Robert Monthoulis' film project about the military coup by the Greek colonels in 'Lilly's Story', and wealthy American businessman in the Étienne Chatiliez' French hit 'Tanguy. John is also a lyric tenor known in recital halls in France and Sweden for his 19th-20th century repertoire of American arts songs, Swedish national romantics, and French chansons d'art.
