Stevan Pesic was a Serbian author and playwright who is best known for his poetic travel books from Tibet, India, Nepal and Sri Lanka (Kathmandu 1982, Bright Island, 1984), in which he expressed extreme philosophical thoughts. He mostly wrote novels, travel books, poetry, drama and works for children. In 1965, he published his first collection of poetry under the title Moonlight Encyclopaedia. His best-known theatre play Tesla: Or the Adaptation of an Angel, was twice made into films for television. Born and raised in Kovilj, where he finished elementary school, Pesic went to high school in Sremski Karlovci. He lived and created in Belgrade as a freelance artist, where he also died in 1994. Stevan Pesic is one of the legacies of the City Library of Novi Sad. His mother, Darinka, donated a large number of books from his personal library to the library, many of which have the author's signature.
