After graduating from college, Denise Pizzini pursued a career in Interior Design in her hometown of San Antonio TX, where she found success specializing in restaurants and commercial projects. Denise began her career in the entertainment business as a commercial Art Director. After working on several films as the "local hire", then spending close to a year on location, Denise realized using design to tell a story was a path with endless creative possibilities and challenges. She closed her interior design practice and moved to Los Angeles. Denise has spent most of the last 20 years Production Designing independent films and television projects, while occasionally working as a Set Decorator on larger studio films. The diversity in her film career has given Denise a wide range of film design experiences. Everything from small independent films such as "Like Water for Chocolate" (for which Denise received an Ariel for Best Art Direction) and "Black Dynamite," and. "Chef" to larger, epic films such as "Thirteen Days" and "The Italian Job". Denise won the 2015 Art Directors Guild Award Half-hour single camera category for her work on The Muppets. In 2016 she was nominated for an Emmy for the Muppets In 2012 Denise was nominated for an Art Directors Guild award for the "Pillows and Blanket" episode of Community. She became a member of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences in 2004, and has curated two acclaimed exhibits for the Academy on set decoration. Denise enjoys working on location, exploring new cities, and cultures.....but is always happy to return to sunny Los Angeles.
