Gheorghe Preda was born in Moeciu, the Brasov County. His economical studies in Bucharest were followed by filmmaking studies in Bucharest and Paris (a degree and a Ph.D. at the University of Drama and Film, Bucharest and a master in cinema and audiovisual at the Sorbonne). After graduating from the Academy, he worked in television: first with ProTV, then TVR and Antena 1. He was Creative Director with MTV Romania (2002 - 2004). He is now a professor at the University of Drama and Film, Bucharest. At the same time, he is the Artistic Director of the Realitatea TV news station. He made 6 short fiction movies and 5 documentaries for television, as well as music videos and commercials. He received the Filmmakers Union award twice, the APTR National Television Award twice and three times the Special Jury Award at the Dakino International Movie Festival. In 1996, he was awarded the Grand Prize at the Art Movie Festival in Teplice, Slovakia, with a documentary on Marcel Chirnoaga. He is a member of the Romanian Filmmakers Union.
