Yves Prigent was born on 16 November 1928 in Nouméa. His father was a naval officer. Yves studied almost everywhere, especially in Morocco and Toulon... In the late 1940s, Yves entered a drama centre with the aim of learning film making. He also participated in theater tours in Morocco. He came to Paris in 1952 with the intention of making films there. He was first a press officer at Contact Organisation (1952-1953). He then joined P.A.C., André Hunebelle's production company, where he was assistant to production managers Pierre Foucaud and René Thévenet. Then, from 1956 to 1960, he was a location manager, sometimes assistant director, before leaving P.A.C. In 1960 he co-directed with Roger Ferret a beautiful short film, "Concerto de l'aube" In the early 1960s, he collaborated with Guy Lehérissey on a series of short films, "Le Sauvage", "Si tu viens en Périgord", "Le Fleuve et l'Océan". From 1960 to 1992 he was once again the general manager or production manager, sometimes the assistant director, of a long series of films.
