David Preston was born May 23 in Santa Monica, California, to Harriet Newell, a Philadelphia-born writer and Joel Preston, a Brooklyn-born film publicist. A passionate, life-long surfer, David grew up in Hollywood and graduated from Fairfax High School. He has studied with Jeffrey Marcus, Academy Award nominated Nina Foch and the legendary William Traylor and Peggy Feury at the Loft Studio. David's first television appearance was on The New Gidget (1986) playing series regular Murph the Surf, a perfect fit for the sun-drenched surfer. For the next several years he worked consistently appearing on numerous television shows and independent films including the cult-favorite Max Headroom (1987) and Harold Becker's The Boost (1988). Following his passion for theatre, he continued to hone his craft on stage playing diverse characters such as Carlson in Of Mice And Men and Bob Ewell in To Kill A Mockingbird to very positive reviews including James Petrillo's of the L.A. Times observing, "David Preston's Carlson looks like he just stepped out of a vintage western from decades ago" and Frances Nicholson's of Stage Struck Review commenting, "The nasty and vindictive Bob Ewell (played by an enthusiastically villainous David Preston) sparks with a vicious energy." He also appeared in the 2012 Los Angeles Premier of Dennis Lehane's Coronado portraying the sociopath Bobby's Father where Stage Scene LA's Steven Stanley noted was, "...played to scary perfection by David Preston." Other performances include the brilliant and lyrical Dr. Adam Stanton in All The King's Men, the forlorn widow Armen in Rant! (Part Deux), Eddie in Valentine Triage and Prince Escalus in Romeo & Juliet. Most recently, David's portrayal of the infamous SS Colonel Albert Meisinger in the 2017 World Premier Production of Fugu was noted by reviewer Joe Straw as, "Preston's work is exceptional and he brings a dark presence to the man who has been called in real life 'The Butcher of Warsaw'." David most recently appeared on Hawaii Five-0 (2010) playing double-agent Jack Teague on the action-packed episode Ke Kanaka I Ha'ule Mai Ka Lewa Mai (2018), as Agent Wilson on Syfy's Stormageddon (2015) and as Jeremy on Higher Power (2018) from producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura. David has also starred in numerous short films including Nightfall (2019), Ambulance (2016), Virtual Morality (2014), The Big Five (2019) and Tidelands (2020).
