1959- Júlio Reny is born on February, 27th, in Porto Alegre, Brazil, son of barber Reni Antunes Barbo and public server Júlia Gay Barbo. He spends his childhood in Cidade Baixa district, and the music is already in his life through his parents who listen to many records at home, his sister takes him often to the movies in order to watch films with Elvis Presley, The Beatles e from Brazilian Jovem Guarda. 1965-A brother in law who plays the rock in the acoustic guitar, in contrast with an uncle who plays Rio Grande do Sul typical music in the accordion. This excites him to play, but, so far, so god. He starts in the primary school of Escola Estadual Ildefonso Gomes. He becomes a small PM (Military Police officer) and he lives in the barracks then. He likes this, because there he can play soccer. 1969-He starts in the Gremio Football Porto-Alegrense (a typical team of the south region) and later in Internacional Sport Club (a typical team of the south region as well; the two teams are rivals for the local population of Rio Grande do Sul) like a goalkeeper, where he stays until 1973. He trains with much dedication (almost obsessively). 1971- He gets into high-school in Colégio Estadual Winston Churchill. The older brothers introduce him to pop rock. Then a deviation of conduct starts manifesting: Júlio and a school mate start to steal records from stores. That wouldn't be so bad if it wasn't constant. At least, this introduces him definitely to heavy rock: The Who, Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath, etc. He becomes a constant ruffian and gets in street conflicts constantly. 1975-He starts taking the second year of high-school in the night shift. He stars looking for a job during the day. Internal conflicts make him leave the thefts and the fights. Soon after that, he is taken to a mental institution, teenager thing. He does not take drugs then, he is just a problem lad. After leaving the institution, the concerned family gets together to discuss his situation. Júlio decides: he wants to be a musician. He gets a Mil Sons electric guitar and a small valve amplifier. happy 1976-He reunites with two friends for the high-school, and, with his brother Paulo Renato (deceased in 1995), starts a band. 1977-Decided to improve himself, he starts studying a little classical guitar. He gets an appropriate acoustic guitar: an acoustic white enamel Giannini Guitar, nylon strings. He starts listening to jazz and Bossa-Nova, with predilection for João Gilberto. 1978-He quits the second year of high-school to fully dedicate to music. 1979-After varying so much on his preferences, he decides Bob Dylan, Neil Young and The Band would be the basic influences for his band. He decides to compose and sing inside that country-rock style. He performs then, with these compositions, the first show named "Uma Canção nas Trevas" (A Song in the Darkness). 1980- The band decides to adopt the he title "Um Canção nas Trevas" and under this name, performs (strangely) the show "Jazz & Blues" in Architecture College from UFRGS. It is a success among students. His daughter Consuelo Valandro is born. Júlio starts living in a house from which the garage becomes legendary. He rents it for rehearsals and there, bands such as Engenheiros do Hawaii and DeFalla play then. He performs a supporting role in the film "Deu Pra Ti, ANos 70", from Giba Assis Brasil 1981-He finishes the band and Júlio goes to a gig with his brother and bass player Ademir Frozi, in the Clube de Cultura. It is called "As Estórias Elétricas de Uma Guitarra Acústica"(The Elecric stories of an acoustic guitar). Independently from the results, which are good in the proposal, Júlio is seen in the artistic field, and by the public, as and underground character, polemic attitude, cutting to the chase. 1982-He makes his first demo recording in tape, to play in Bandeirantes AM Radio Station, future Ipanema FM (a classical and rock'n'roll local Radio Station). The song is "Tomás e a Lagoa" (Thomas and the lagoon) and it is fairly-received. He reunifies the band under his name, in the show "Aconteceu Durante o Verão"(It happened during the summer), in Teatro 1 (Ramiro Barcelos street,in Porto Alegre). He records a new demo in roll-tape, "Cine Marabá" . It is a success on Band AM. It becomes one of the hits, getting even to play in may radio station in Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo where he sends copies of the demo. Willing to take this alternative path, he decided to record an album and release it in cassette tapes. . He creates a phonographic label specialized in cassette tapes and also with the intention of releasing other authors. The label is called "Pirata Sulista". He acts in the film "Verdes Anos" by Carlos Gerbase. 1985-Forms the band "Km 0" with Edu K in the guitars, Paulo Renato on the drums, Fred in the percussion and Júlio on the bass guitar. In this formation, they record two demo-tapes: "Não Chores" and "Amor e Morte".Both play a lot in Porto Alegre. They are constantly broadcasted through Atlântida FM Radio Station, Cidade FM Radio Station and Ipanema FM Radio Station, in the other ones, a little less. "Não Chores" plays very much in Rio de Janeiro, that even Guilherme Arantes quotes it as a reference of music in the south of Brazil, because he likesto listen to it in Fluminense Radio Station. They start to alternate with "Engenheiros do Hawaii" the opening band of the gigs. A gig in Gigantinho is decisive: Rock Unificado I. Júlio knows the big bosses from record companies will be there willing to produce a record of the rock from the south. Inexplicably, the band performs badly. Everything goes wrong. From there on, many personal problems affect Júlio. The death of his wife is the limit of his astral hell. He acts in the film "Quero ser Feliz"(I want to be Happy), by Sérgio Lerrer, in the role of a young recruit. 1986-He starts as lead singer of the band "Urubu Rei",led by Carlos Eduardo Miranda. Son they mix half the "Km0" with "Urubu Rei", forming the renowned "Expresso Oriente" with Cator Daut and Flávio Santos (future DeFalla cell). Júlio Reny and Expresso Oriente become reference of Rock Gaúcho(from the south of Brazil) and of the underground attitude. The things start to work out and the strategy of demo-tapes for radios star to work again. "Maomé" and "Garota do Carro Vermelho" play frequently in the local young radio stations and the band gets gigs. Júlio ends up as a radio host for Ipanema FM as a producer, getting the first place at IBOPE (Public Opinion Poll) with Negras Melodias. 1987-The band is reformulated. Producer Moacir gets in and puts them in the countryside paths, Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo. There, they start playing their set list on TV shows and perform gigs. 1988-Júlio stars in the main role in the film "Vicious", a short by Rogério Ferrari. With the band, he records two tracks in the collection Rio Grande do Sul from Rock SBK. 1990-Júlio Reny and the Expresso Oriente record an independent album. 1991-He forms a new band: Júlio Reny Guitar Band, starting to work with Frank Jorge with compositions and arrangements. He records many videos and demo-tapes, getting well with the video Mil e uma Noites in MTV. He goes on as a radio host at Ipanema FM and makes many gigs until 1996. 1997-He blunts on Bandeirantes TV from Porto Alegre as the character "Cowboy do Deserto" in the show "Folharada", making chronicles and movie comments. Fank Jorge, Márcio Petracco and Júlio Reny, under the name "Cowboys Espirituais", record two songs while jamming for Júlio's girlfriend Melissa (who later would be his wife): "Uma Mulher" and a version of "Como é Grande o meu Amor por Você" by Roberto Carlos. 1998-The demo plays well on the radio and the jam becomes serious. The 15 more from Ipanema FM, heard all across the state. They conclude an album and are hired by Trama Record Company who releases nationally the CD "Cowboys Espirituais", having as a hit the song "Jovem Cowboy" that gets the National Prize of Revelation in Latin America from CMT (Country Music Television) from Miami/USA. 1999- They perform many gigs on the record throughout Rio Grande do Sul, Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo. His second daughter is born, Larissa da Silva Barbo. 2001-He re-editates his main works included in the tape "Último Verão" (from the bankrupted Piratas Sulistas) and in the LP Júlio Reny and the Expresso Oriente. Frank Jorge gets into his solo careers and Júlio releases the project "Júlio Canta Roberto Carlos", with success public in the night of Porto Alegre. The Cowboys Espirituais record their second record De Luxe, by Stop Records. Text taken from the book "Sons do Sul" by Henrique Mann. 2006-He releaseshis last work: Diários da Chuva, playing with Wander Wildner in Mão Santa(VilaMadalena); he is indicated to the Prêmio Açorianos for best pop songwriter. Co-authorship by Frank Jorge and Carlo Pianta (Graforreia Xilarmônica). 2007- He is preparing his next album in which the title "..spring" will lead to a solar atmosphere, different from the dark and rainy atmosphere from "Diários da Chuva" (Diaries from the Rain).Pre-selecting the set list,he is recording the first demos, acoustic guitar and voice.
