Lowell Thomas filmed Major T.E. Lawrence and his Arab army fighting the Ottoman Turks in the deserts of Palestine in early 1917 during WWI. It was he who coined the phrase "Lawrence of Arabia"' and with his film and the following publicity made Lawrence perhaps the greatest legend of the Twentieth Century. Lawrence and the Arabs were betrayed by European imperial politics of the day, the consequences of which we still endure to this day at great expense and continuing unspeakable human suffering in the Middle East. Lowell Thomas was there to film the beginning and the middle. But not the end.
