Referring to his work as "smart art with heart," Kit Thomas has produced more than a hundred films, CD's, music videos, and interactive multi-media projects over the last 35 years. As a record producer, his projects have ranged from children's music to jazz, pop, rock, country, gospel and sacred music from around the world. Commissioned by Sting in 1991, Thomas produced and directed Burning Down Tomorrow, a documentary film on the global rainforest crisis, which has won many international awards, including an Oscar nomination for Best Documentary Short Subject. He went on to win a national EMMY for "Spaceship Earth," a television special that he co-produced and directed for the Disney Channel. Originally created as an Earth Day special (which aired on the Disney Channel for ten consecutive years,) "Spaceship Earth" has become one of the all-time best selling educational videos in its category. Committed to working on projects that "make a difference," Thomas has produced films for many charitable organizations including The Entertainment Industry Foundation, The Hunger Project, John Denver's Windstar Foundation, The Pachamama Alliance, and The Wellness Community, and was selected by the United Nations to serve as co-producer of their award-winning 50th Anniversary video "A Place To Stand." He co-produced/directed the highly acclaimed ECO (Earth Communications Office) environmental PSA campaign which was translated into eleven languages and has run in over eighty countries. A longtime member of the National Academy of Recording Arts & Sciences, Kit has served on the Board of Governors for nine years, as Chairman of the Membership Benefits Committee for four years, Co-Chair of the Education Committee for two years, and as Category Screening Committee Chairman for twenty-two years. As Executive Director of the Circle of Wisdom Media, Kit's work is currently focused on interviewing indigenous elders and contemporary wisdom keepers from diverse cultures around the world.
